Bucket Remake
-----------------------------------
Screenshots
-----------------------------------

Creating a plane and importing the image onto it; Normalize to centralize the image

After Tracing the image, we revolve it and rotate to give it shape

Extruding the sides to make the "handle"

Creating the hole in which the knob would fit

Knob fitted

Creating an arch then a plane with handle shape and extrude along the line to form the handle
Final Product
-----------------------------------
Well that's that~ onto the reflections...

-----------------------------------
Reflection
-----------------------------------

This is a pretty challenging exercise. I had problems with sticking the plane to the line before extruding it...I can't remember how i did it the last time ): so i tried everything (was fun doing that and frustrating at the same time; i admit) but in the end i manage to get it XD

Well, this exercise has taught me a lot. From using revolving tool to many others such as extruding (yet again) and drawing arches.

At first i kept getting holes in the center of my bucket...but i manage to fix that with a little help from my friend XD Strange however, when i did it in class with the teacher's guide i didn't get any holes. That includes me doing it at home not following the template given. But once i followed the template i kept having problem with the holes =.=

The knob was the more challenging thing ;_; i can't get it to revolve right.. it keeps going inverted!! ): At least i solved that @.@

well, until next time (when i post more missing/updated works)

[ GEARS ]

Gears
-----------------------------------
Usual Images
-----------------------------------

This step basically is just creating a pipe by the given dimensions and selecting face mode
following that is the selections of the faces to where i want to extrude the faces
Scaling and extruding the faces to make the gears
-----------------------------------

Ok so what i've learned here is simply the selection/deselection of faces and then extruding them to certain dimensions to create a gear (:

This was a simple exercise focusing on how to extrude. Clear and straight-forward :D

E-Learning Week 4:
-----------------------------------
Questions
-----------------------------------

Does multi-tasking give you a real or false sense of having accomplished something?

I would say neither. For to me, multitasking comes naturally. When i feel like i can do certain things easily and without much concentration, yet product good enough quality work, i tend to multitask them. However, when i feel like i need to be more serious even when i'm already good in the subject, i would bring my multitasking down a level to just doing my work and once in a while alt-tab to change the music i'm listening to.

So accomplishing anything? Well, my answer would be no. Perhaps i'm just to use to it to realize and take note of these small things.

-----------------------------------

Is learning 3D and design different from learning programming or is all learning the same? why?

I would say that all learning is similar but not the same. A good example would be this statement: All humans are similar, for we have the same characteristics but we're not the same as we do not all look identical. The similarities here is, we're all still gaining knowledge and practicing it. However, the way to approach the basic learning it is different.

3D and Design is something, to my personally, that requires creativity and imagination. While programming is basically understanding the codes and remembering how to type them and get them to work in the programming logic. Design has no fixed or standard code. Everyone sees a same object with different views. Just as how when people look at art, one may judge to say it looks plain, while another may see much more then just the surface image.

Yes perhaps 3D basics are similar for all have to start at a certain point. But once you get the grasp of it, you would be interested to experiment and try out on your own exactly your preferred method to getting to the end point.

-----------------------------------

The article states that "Learning is actually a very complex operation for an individual". Do you agree with this? Do you feel that you approach your learning in the best way - if yes, how, and if no, how can you change your work style?

I would agree to this statement for as simple as it sounds it actually requires a lot of work to remember and recall. If i'm not wrong, once i heard my sister say that when we study something we only can fully digest and remember it in about 2~3 years from when we first learned it? I'm not so sure, but if it's true then it proves something.

I don't think that my way of learning is the best but i guess it would be effective for me. I enjoy working in the comfort of music that suits my mood for the day. For example, instrumental calming musics for the softer slower days and rock, post-hardcore when i feel the day's been too slow and boring. Music affects the way i do work. When i'm determined i enjoy music that shows that determination. I love music, thus my attachment to it.

But this also means i tend to stray from my work once in a while...Its only because i want to search for more interesting music that exactly suits the mood. Every piece has a different mood although they might not sound too different... funny, i know but it's the amazing thing about it. Just as it is for art.

How can i improve? Maybe i shouldn't get too attach and rely on music too much to motivate me to do work. If i can concentrate without music and just silence or a little sound from my surroundings (say the fan buzzing or the random people running pass downstairs). I guess, as long as i feel comfortable, i am able to concentrate and learn well (:

-----------------------------------

What are your thoughts about the last paragraph in the extract? Should your lecturers also focus on your work attitude, or just leave you to sink or swim on your own? Why?

I believe that communication is one of the most important key to do well in this society. With networks and good relationships it can bring you far for you have a wide variety of resources. Of course, this would not be easy to achieve it takes skill to analyze and determine correctly what every individual needs and wants and also how to show it such that you do not conflict this relationship with another relationship with another person. Being two-faced isn't all that great.

I think humans are a complicated bunch of people. All we do is create rules to trap ourselves within, if you don't follow these rules you'll either be seen as "insane" or "law-breaking" or anything along the lines of "stupid" and "not normal".

Talking about work attitude; I feel that everyone works different, there's no fixed plan that everyone has to follow to do their work. Especially in the area of art and design. I feel it is necessary for teachers to work on student's work attitude on the condition that the student refuses to do anything just because they don't want to or don't know how to. Else if they can get the work done in their own time and own target before the due date, i believe we should just leave the student to do it at their own comfortable time and pace.

I suppose i have to think about what is "good" work attitude and what is "bad". For everyone sees this differently.

But i think the obvious line is:
Good = all work done, student understands, work not submitted late.
Bad = work not done, student can't be bother, work not even submitted.

Make sense? XD

Whatever that's in between the "Good" and "Bad". Is Average where by the teacher can choose to either push or not. Because that average is determined by each individual.

[ Box - Updated ]

Box - Update
-----------------------------------
As usual with the screenshots
-----------------------------------

-----------------------------------

This one was done up to made as if the box has been used several times and is pretty "beat" up @.@

We added ripples as such to enhance the look. pretty simple after you've gotten the basic box out XD

-----------------------------------
Reflection
-----------------------------------

So i've been taking a long time to be uploading all of these easy works, i suppose i have been slacking off ):

And it seems as if my journal's all in a mess. I'll take time to organize it soon. Once i have all my works up on it first!!! > <

So far it's been pretty enjoyable and the step by step instructions given were all clear which helped a lot (:

Will work harder!!!

[ Box ]

Box

-----------------------------------

So on with the photos first

-----------------------------------

-----------------------------------

Well, it's incomplete. This one is just a simple open box done by first creating a cube.
Following that create an extra ring using the edge ring tool and then extruding the surface (:

Pushing it down to create depth in the box. Then extruding the flips and bending them.

The next post will be the updated box :D

-----------------------------------

Reflection

Well over all so far it's been pretty easy and i understand every tool (x i guess that's a good thing? (:

Well, there's more to learn!! >:D

-----------------------------------

This is the finished version; done in school

This is just a short video of it (: hahas

-----------------------------------

Reflection

This is the first lesson whereby i learned to draw against a picture and using planes to form 3d solid shapes.

Firstly there's the importing of images

which is simply making the front view to be the selected view and then go to:
view ~ image plane ~ import image...

And wala~ your image is poofed there :D

This is reflected in the tracks exercise too~~!!! :D

Overall it was a find lesson! (us usual i had a little extra time to colour the model XD)

[ Washboard and Tracks ]

Train Tracks
-----------------------------------

Ok so on with the screenshots first.

-----------------------------------

we begin with a piece of imported drawing; traced it with a create polygon tool

Then we extruded the shape to create the tracks~

After that we extruded the bottom to create the tracks itself and extruded it too

Then we beveled the corners and here we have the finished version of the straight tracks

This is the curved tracks using the bend tool from the animation menus

And that's the end of the tracks~

-----------------------------------

Wash Board

Here's the finished version of the washboard

Here's the beginning where we created a panel and expended on it

extruded the beveled edges to create our washboard "ins and outs"

Finished product with a little colour just for fun

-----------------------------------

Reflection

Well there's that. On with the reflection~

In this 2 exercises we've learned to create simple items via using bevel and extruding tools found in Maya. We also used the animation menu, rather then only the polygons menus.

Over all i found this exercise pretty easy to accomplish (:

Next post would be my finished bucket!

I've done it in school with the help of my teacher~
Thanks!!

Well, until then!

[ My Gundam? ]

My Gundam

-----------------------------------

Gundam

Gundam 2

-----------------------------------

Ok, so here's the gundams and its guns i would like to model for my assignment 1. I've gotten down to it just need to well.. do it properly @.@

Do leave a comment to see if i can indeed do this model. I have pictures of it too just that i haven't really uploaded it @.@

My plan is really to just model the rifle gun first. If that's too easy make the other gun. If that's too easy then.. well, it'll have to be the whole gundam cause i don't really have toys at home ):

Until then~

[ Picture Comparison ]

Prison or Toon-Town?
-----------------------------------

Picture 1:

Prison – The shape of the building is very angular and sharp. It looks very firm and uniform in terms of the windows. It gives off a more disciplined feel. The structure looks solid and impenetrable.

-----------------------------------

Picture 2:

Prison – There are fences and very angular structure overall. It is neat and very uniform. The lines are shaped in such a way it looks very firm and tall.

-----------------------------------

Picture 3:

Toontown – The shape of the structures are mainly rounded at the edges and certain structure are slightly slanted to portray a very bouncy feeling.

-----------------------------------

Picture 4:

Toontown – The shape of the build is not uniform at all with some structures taller than others and of slightly more curved shape it portrays a more fun feeling. Every structure has a different “crown” at the top of the triangle cover.

[ Robot Side Kick ]

Noah

Here's a few screen shots of Noah, as mentioned below; He's Noir's side kick :)

They make a cute couple, no?

Made the same way as how i did Noir, just that it made him a cylinder head O:

Yes i lack much creativity there, but they are suppose to be.. a couple?

Cheers :P

[ Train ]

TRAIN

Ok, i'm finally done with the train! (WHEEE)

Many thanks to this video~
Maya Training Tutorial (Adding Colour)

Well on with the SCREENSHOTS (:

-----------------------------------

-----------------------------------

I have a video :P wonder if i can upload it.. let's try *-*

-----------------------------------

This assignment helps to practice with the bevel tool and i did a little research and found out how to colour my lil blocks!! :D

So here's the coloured version (:

I've also learned to do grouping then rotation of the whole group so that it doesn't go out of shape @.@ and also i used a little vertex to do the connection. Basically adjusting the exact node to form the bends i want (:

-----------------------------------

Cheers,
Elixian

[ BLOCKS FTW ]

BLOCKS!

Ok, so i've done my assignment on the blocks O.O!!! (SHOCKED)

Some screen shots below :D

Picture-ri-fic

OMG I FINISHED IT -TEARS- ;__;

Lookie it's a block with a semi circle cut out :D

That basic triangle that hated me so much

-----------------------------------

In this assignment learned to make race track blocks O: (ITS WOODEN)

So as usual we have our basic controls and all learned from the lil robot - Noir :) Yes she has a partner called Noah, he's at the top (as in the top post O.o) LOL.

SO this time we learned the Bevel Tool. This basically enables the user to make a smooth looking shape (: There's also another method that has been taught to us in class which is much more effective, i might say.

So here's how it goes:

And so basically when you smooth the shape, it retains it's shape but still becomes rounded. While the Bevel Tool just shapes the edge, although after you smooth the shape it looks more even, but it doesn't really work as well with the custom random shapes we're gonna make...

Next I learned to use Mesh ~ Booleans ~ Difference and Mesh ~ Booleans ~ Union

Difference basically allows you to cut a shape from another while union does the opposite.

-----------------------------------

Reflection

Well, learned a lot!! but there's more coming :D gonna master Maya with the time i have... although i do meet problems some times =.= but i'll overcome it soon :D

I noticed while doing my lastest assignment "My Gundam" that i can't really do different well @.@ some how it takes away the whole shape... hmm. I'll work on it though!!!

Cheers,
Elixian :D
